2025 Deakin Stock Pitch Competition:
4th Deakin Stock Pitch Competition (DSPC 2025)


Student teams are to conduct research on designated public companies traded on the ASX. The team will prepare a written report on their selected company and then present their findings to a panel of judges.

Conditions of entry: 
Entrants must be current Deakin Business and Law students.
Postgraduate and undergraduate students both welcome to apply.
Diversity amongst team members highly encouraged.
Team submissions of up to 3-5 members.
If you apply as an individual we will try and form teams of individuals or add you to a team that comprises 3 or less.

    • Winning team will be awarded a cash reward of $500 sponsored by CFA Australian Society.
    • Second place will be awarded a cash reward of $300 sponsored by DBS Finance Group.
    • Third place will be awarded a cash reward of $200 sponsored by DBS Finance Group.
    • The top performing student(s) will be granted the CFA scholarship.
    • The outstanding performing students will be selected to represent Deakin to participate CFA Annual Research Challenge 2025.

  1. Only team member(s) may conduct research on the subject company for the purposes of the stock pitch competition.
  2. Teams may use only publicly available information in conducting their research.
  3. Teams may utilise their faculty advisor as a resource but may not enlist the help of any other individual who has ever been employed as an investment management professional.
  4. Teams can read existing research on the subject company, but all analysis should be their own; they may not copy analysis (i.e., plagiarize) from another source into their written reports or presentations. Sourced information should be properly cited using a generally accepted citation system.

    Agree to photos for promotional purposes and to communicate competition to outcomes 
Please acknowledge that you are aware of, and will agree to, the format of the competition as outlined below. The format includes a written report and presentation.

Written Report
Each team submits a written report (not more than 2000 words) and must include the following:
(1) Information in the header on the first page:
  • Company name
  • Exchange
  • Ticker symbol
  • Sector/industry
  • Recommendation (buy/sell/hold)
  • Current price (as of ___date)
  • Target price (% increase/decrease)

(2) The report must contain (but not limited to) the following sections:
  • Business description
  • Industry overview and competitive positioning
  • Investment summary
  • Valuation
  • Financial analysis
  • Investment risks
  • Environmental, social, and governance

Presentation
  1. The presentation will be 8 to 10 minutes long.
  2. An additional 10 minutes will be provided to answer questions raised by the judges. Only judges are permitted to pose questions to a team during the Q&A session.
  3. Each presentation will be timed. The timekeeper will provide a one‐minute warning and an announcement when the time has expired during the presentation. The timekeeper will announce when the time has expired during the Q&A period. When the timekeeper announces that time has expired, teams must immediately conclude.
  4. The winning team will have the highest combined score based on the written report results (50%) and the presentation results (50%)
